NW 27th Ave. Draw Bridge - Miami, Florida
The NW 27th Ave Drawbridge, located in Miami, Florida, required major refurbishment of the hydraulic operating system that opens and closes the individual bascule sections of the bridge. BCS personnel participated in the following scopes:
- Complete refurbishment of hydraulic operating system
- New hydraulic cylinders for open/close operations
- Overall hydraulic system design and approval
- FDOT submittal processes
- In-situ component replacement
- Customer-witnessed testing & verification
Grand Bayou Floodgate - Houma, LA
The Grand Bayou Floodgate is part of the Morganza to the Gulf flood protection system in Lafourche and Terrebonne Parishes. The floodgate consists of a buoyant barge and a turnkey electro-hydraulic operating system. BCS personnel participated in the following scopes:
- Design & manufacture of integrated floodgate operating system
- Turnkey hydraulic power unit and valve actuation system
- Turnkey electrical control system for open/close operations
- Automated ballasting control system
- Onsite installation and customer-witnessed testing
El Taino & El Coqui LNG Pump Room - Crowley Maritime
The sister vessels El Taino and El Coqui, owned and operated by Crowley Maritime, were among the first ConRo ships of their kind to be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG). Regasification of the LNG prior to combustion in the engines required the turnkey design and manufacture of a first-of-its-kind LNG pumproom. BCS personnel participated in the following scopes:
- Pump room structural design
- Cryogenic fabrication processes
- Complete quality control of fabrication and non-destructive testing according in conjunction with class oversight
- Custom assembly and testing procedures
- Final installation and certification in shipyard
Debris Handling Machine - Keokuk Renewable Energy Center
The Keokuk Renewable Energy Center is a hydroelectric power plant that has been providing clean, low cost, and reliable energy to local homes for over 100 years. Debris from the upstream side of the Mississippi River causes inefficiencies in power production. The project included working collaboratively with multiple design groups to design and build a machine to remove debris from the intake gates of the turbines, process it, and then dispose of it on the downstream side of the dam. BCS personnel participated in the following scopes:
- Iterative collaborative design-build process
- Turnkey hydraulic operating and control system
- Custom-designed and fabricated hydraulic piping
- Custom hydraulic actuators
- Installation and startup onsite
- Overall project management
